hairspray moran (183)

On Monday 15 June our Senior School presented a stage version of the movie Hairspray. Every student from Year 5 and 6 was on stage for this exciting production. We are very proud of their efforts in choreographing and performing, and also for their commitment to give up their own time to make the production a success.  We look forward to the Middle School production of Let's Go To The Movies in the first week of term 3. This production also involves every student from the Middle School in a musical play they have created and choreographed themselves. Our Performing Arts teacher Jacinta O'Leary has guided the students through each of these productions. After Hairspray Jacinta said "I am just so proud of our students and the fantastic way they have performed. I can't wait for the Middle School production!"

We are fortunate to have secured fundng under the federal government's Economic Stimulus Package - Building the Education Revolution. This grant will finance the construction of a modern block of 6 classrooms to replace our current portable classrooms. The building will feature a variety of separate learning areas designed to facilitate 21st century teaching and learning styles. Construction should begin by October with completion due in mid 2010. Click on the following link to see the plan of our new building BER class module. This plan will be altered to fit site requirements and school needs.

Picture 7At Warranwood Primary School we believe learning and teaching occurs most effectively when strong, positive relationships exist between students and teachers.  Accordingly we have established beginning of the year routines which promote and build relationships both within and beyond the classroom.

The first few weeks of the year focus on establishing relationships with and between students and teachers, ensuring our classrooms are supportive and well managed.  Students participate in ‘getting to know you activities’ and discuss how they want to be treated.  Often words like respected, considered, fairly treated etc are listed.  These words are then explored or ‘unpacked’, providing detailed examples of what these types of behaviours entail and clearly demonstrating to students how to model them. more...
