CLASS OF 2010
We will begin constructing classes for 2010 in early Term 4. Below is an attachment of the Updated Class Formation Policy, which was ratified by school council in 2008. If you have any queries regarding the policy please contact the school.
TRANSITION VISITS
We aim to have each new child settle into school life as smoothly as possible. All prep students are allocated to their classes in term 4 of their Kindergarten year. They will attend orientation sessions at school with their class teacher and future class mates. These sessions are in late November and early December. At the beginning of the school year our prep children are well supported in the playground. Our new preps are easily recognisable by their name tags and become quickly known to all staff. At first our preps are restricted to playing in the supervised prep playground at recesses to establish their confidence. Once settled in, a strong Buddy System operates, pairing each prep child with a child from Grades 5 and 6.
PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR SCHOOL
Starting school is an important milestone in your child’s life. Together we will endeavour to make the transition from home/kindergarten to school as smooth as possible. The first weeks of school are an exciting and often confusing time for your child.
Before your child begins school familiarise yourself with the school environment. Practise travelling to and from school so that your child recognise the procedure and the route. Visit the school and encourage your child to play on the equipment and to locate the drinking taps and the entrance doors to the building and the toilets.
Learning is not just acquiring literacy and numeracy skills. It also involves learning how to develop emotional, social and physical skills, being independent, both in the classroom and in the playground as well as being able to cope throughout the day with work that involves concentration and effort. Parents have a major role to play in being supportive and helpful to their children. It is important that children believe that they are coping successfully.
